Saudi Women's Tennis Team Makes Historic Billie Jean King Cup Debut
The Saudi women's national team participated for the first time ever in Billie Jean King Cup
Our national women’s team finished its first historic participation in the Billie Jean King Cup for Asia/Oceania continent group 3, which was held in Kingdom of Bahrain between 17-21 October in Isa Town.
The draw placed our Saudi team in a strong group with the first-seed team in the tournament Iran, alongside with Iraq, where the duo, Yara Alhogbani and Dania Al-Zuhair, won in three matches to love over the Iraqi team, in the day after our national team lost to the Iranian team in an epic match that lasted for more than 6 hours of competition in total, where Yara Alhogbani lost against Yasaman Yazdani, ranked 472nd in the world in the ITF Junior Women’s Rankings, with a score of 6-4 2-6 6-4, her colleague in the Saudi national team, Daniya Al-Zuhair, lost to Iranian Neli Atifi, ranked 897th in the ITF Juniors rankings 7-6 0-6 1-6.
Our national team concluded its participation with a loss against Maldives 2-1 in the 5/6 placement match ,ending its first participation in 6th place out of 14 participating teams.
The team was represented in this participation by: Yara Alhogbani, Daniya Al Zuhair, Lara Bukhary, Sarah Al-Obaidan and Naya El Farouki.
